Sokoto State Builds 250 Solar-Powered Water Scheme in its Local Governments

Sokoto,which is a State that is located in the extreme northwest of Nigeria has a dry sahel environment with sandy isolated hills.The temperatures in daytime, do exceed  45°C  and as a result,the heat is intense.Due to its vegetation and climate, water is a luxury in a lot of communities there.

As a result of these,the State government has awarded and signed a contract for the construction of 250 solar water-powered schemes to be sited in rural areas within its 23 local governments

The Governor made this known in a statement on Sunday – through his spokes person, Malam Imam Imam.He said the project  is also part of the government’s policy to open up the communities and improve their standard of living.

  

The Solar-powered project will comprise of a solar pumping system, control room, distribution system, borehole, 10,000-litre capacity tank and a security fence.

The 23 Local Government Areas  of the State will benefit from the scheme through the following allocations:

 

Local Governments Schemes
Dange Shuni, Gada and Sokoto North 14
Wurno 12
Illela 11
Binji, Bodinga, ,, Goronyo, Gudu, Gwadabawa,, Isa, Kebbe, Kware, Rabah, Sabon Birni, Shagari, Silame,  Sokoto South, Tambuwal, Tangaza, Tureta, Wamako,Yabo 10

 

This is one of the solar-powered projects  in the country commissioned this year.It was designed to help pump water from the arid land in the State.The previous ones made earlier were for electricity generation.
