The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, said it plans to venture into solar power generation and is also considering powering all its petrol stations and retail with electricity from solar energy. The parastatal – through Its GMD (Dr Maikanti Baru ) said the renewable energy project was very important to the current administration and that was why what he made it one of the major programmes of his corporate vision of 12 Business Focus Areas (BUFA) upon assuming office. He stated that as part of NNPC’s expanded programme on providing renewable energy solutions, the corporation was planning to power all its retail outlets by means of Solar PhotoVoltaic, facilities. He further noted that the NNPC would develop grid and off-grid solar power as a business thereby enhancing its contribution to the clean fuels initiative of the Federal Government.
With this initiative,the government is taking positive steps in the right direction and hopefully one day, will transform the power sector to be totally ‘green’
