Solar Energy as a Household Necessity

Solar energy is a major renewable energy source with the potential to meet many of the challenges facing the world. This power source is increasing in popularity because it is versatile with many benefits to people and the environment.

Many Nigerians are now harnessing energy from the sun to replace traditional methods that have been taking a toll on the environment. Instead of burning fossil fuels and polluting the environment massively, consumers are taking advantage of the infinite energy of the sun to power their homes, appliances and even their cars!

The cost of deriving energy from the sun is steadily decreasing, leading to the increased shift to the use of solar for power supply by many Nigerians. However, millions still do not view the power source as a necessity, but a luxury.

It is important to view solar power as a household necessity. Below are a few reasons why.

  • Solar Energy is Dependable

Our day to day lives are largely dependent on electricity. From the need to follow world events on news channels, to charging our devices to powering household appliances. The list goes on. The COVID-19 outbreak only amplified the dependency on electricity even more. The pandemic proved the need for constant electricity in every home.

Solar energy provides seamless and uninterrupted power supply twenty-four hours long.

  • Solar Energy is Clean

The issue of pollution is not one that is alien to the Nigerian scene. According to the World Health Organization, four cities with the worst cases of air pollution are Nigerian cities. And topping that list is Onitsha, Anambra State. Pollution is one of the crises that the government grapples with the most.

While there are several factors that contribute to mass pollution in the country, the burning of fossils is a major contributor to air pollution and health conditions in Nigerians that often result in deaths.

Solar energy does not require the burning of fossils or any other resources to function. The energy is derived from the sun. There is no pollution of any form, it is clean and green.

  • Small and Decentralized Electricity Source

One of the best parts of powering your home with solar energy is that it can be produced on a small scale directly by the end consumer in contrast to large centralized conventional energy sources controlled by large corporations.

Simply put, going solar only involves the mounting of the panels on your roof and installing the inverter and batteries in a ventilated area.

Solar makes you very much in charge of your power supply, instead of leaving you at the mercy of a central power supplier.

  • Solar is Cost Effective

Residential solar panels can offset your costs. Solar offers year-round efficiency and savings, regardless of the weather.

This could reduce your monthly electric bill significantly. Utility bills are rising every year. But with a reputable solar company and a workable financing plan, rates payable for electricity are predictable and significantly less.

As other necessities, solar energy provides a solution to a crucial need upon which many other factors of our everyday lives are dependent.  Not only does it ensure stability, it goes on to build economic safety in the long run.
