Solynta Energy is pleased to announce that it has partnered with UK Charity, Solar In Africa, to power private schools in Lagos for free.

Sound Global School in Alimosho is the first school to have benefitted from the scheme. In January 2020 Solynta installed a 2KW system at its premises. The solar system powers light, fans and office equipment such as laptops and a small fridge. The proprietress  Mrs. Hadiza Idris was pleasantly surprised at the free offer after her schools was nominated by a friend who heard about the project.

In a statement issued by Solynta CEO, Mr. Uvie Ugono, he stated that this initiative is offering underserved school communities in urban areas the chance to improve the life chances of its pupils.

Education plays a key role in lifting children from poverty. Up to 65 per cent of children in Nigeria go to schools that lack electricity and are schooling in the dark. Clean, reliable power would enable teachers to continue classes and make learning enjoyable and impactful for students.

Interested schools are currently being assessed for their eligibility before being placed on a waitlist. The plan is for installations to commence in September 2020 provided schools have resumed after the Covid-19 educationlockdown. Due to the high demand schools are being advised that they can expect a wait time of 24 -32 weeksdepending on when they register.
